Ok, I will grant you that I'm not entirely sure if I have the right UMC, but I had a bad run-in with some lady claiming to be from Gilbert UMC, and I believe it was this one. I'd approach this lady privately on these issues, but I don't have her contact info. I also think that a lot of Christians would do well to consider my perspective for evangelism purposes.
Talking to the lady was frustrating, because I found that I could not effectively communicate my perspective to her. I am a Christian and have forgiven my abusers, but I still live with a lot of triggers and may live with undiagnosed PTSD from the spiritual and psychological abuse I endured in a church in college. As a result, I am bit cautious with regards to suitable churches to attend. I'm sorry, I can't help this. It's not a matter of sin or lack of forgiveness, but lack of trust. But, I realize that many of you may not understand the difference. For me, it's an issue of using wisdom and discernment and staying away from people who would be most apt to trigger me, so that I can live a mostly productive life for the Lord, despite what happened to me. Not all Christians are like this, just pushy ones who tend to talk about "love" to complete strangers, only to show their nastier true colors later on, much like cult members do.
I don't need to hear about love at first. Show me it by your actions, like James wrote we should do. Then I will know.
This lady told me the Church is full of sinners. True, but so is the rest of the world. Sinners outside of church -- as well as in healthier churches -- are often nice people, aren't one way one day and different the next, but consistent the whole time, despite being sinners. No, they don't have Jesus; but they mostly treat me as an equal, with kindness, respect and sometimes generosity. They often treat me as Christ would. So, rather than use the "Church is full of sinners" excuse, when folks are being hypocritical and abusive in the Church, do what the Bible says and exercise church discipline. Don't allow evil -- particularly abuse and blatant hypocrisy -- to continue in the Church and malign Christ's name. If the church did this instead of offering that cop-out, I might be inclined to respect the church more and maybe attend some day.Added June 26, 2017 by Lynda Gruen - ★ ★ ★ ★ ★

Very warm and welcoming. This happened to be the first church we visited when we moved to the area, and we loved it so much we didn't look any further. Lots of activities and support across a variety of needs, ages, worship styles and interests.
